It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

We're talking about the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a team that has accomplished all there is.

It needed until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batters to maintain a record if never given the opportunity.

Ultimately, the result of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her debut and seven world titles have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India momentarily interrupted the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort is debatable.

Many contend the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this hundred was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this performance followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in training, it was a frustrating experience because it seemed I lacked timing completely," stated Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your fighting spirit kick in and you just lock into the match."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in taking over from iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from there Healy was on her way.

"The possibility to take the field and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

By the time she was dismissed Australia needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the assurance to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if necessary, we believe we can succeed."

These statements will be the final thing competing nations at this tournament should hear.

During the last week a feeling they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this success coming after win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was at that stage they exited last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have postponed thoughts of retirement, this championship is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured an international tournament as leader.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
